Welcome to Phyzz’s Blog!

Phyzz Yoga is a Seattle-based mobile yoga studio that brings yoga and meditation classes to offices and unexpected spaces.

We help people energize their relationship to the way they make their living, and see the value of "yoga at work" (get it?).

Read this blog for various musings on yoga and other topics, or, check out our more schmancy, corporate page.

Oh! And we made the local news. Watch our TV Debut!

Who’s Behind Phyzz?

Over the last decade and a half, Karen has worked as a geologist, high school math teacher, dot-com startup geek, IT nerd, and marketing project manager. In 2008 she realized that teaching yoga required her full and undivided attention.

Based in Seattle, she teaches yoga in the home, at the workplace, and around the world. She has been teaching yoga since 2003, and practicing since 1998. She plans retreats to Northwest destinations, to Mexico, and India. Oh yeah, and she’s older than she looks.

Client Profile: Ruby & Salmon Bay Community Lending

It’s client profile time again!  This time we get the good word from Ruby at Salmon Bay Community Lending.  Salmon Bay Community Lending provides home loans for folks in the Northwest. Their dedication to the community is felt straight from the heart of their business.  When Ruby connected with Karen (via a wedding, a friend, and networking through Biznik), she knew that while she didn’t have the ability to provide health care coverage for her employees she WAS able to provide health benefits in the form of yoga practice at work. How awesome is that?! As you’ll hear from Ruby directly, yoga has been not only a welcome break from the work day, but has been a way for her team to connect with one another and the great work they do.

Phyzz: What do you like to do for fun other than yoga? Has yoga affected your “extracurricular” activities?
Ruby: Many of the gals in the office are tango and salsa dancers, so dance is definitely a large part of our extracurricular activities.  Some of the other gals are more into rock climbing and basketball.   Yoga certainly supports everything we do.

P: What is your favorite part of having yoga be part of your work week routine? Is there a particular benefit that stands out for you?
R: Having yoga at the workplace provides a wonderful space for the team to connect and refocus.  It is certainly always the highlight of the day!  Also, as a small business, providing health insurance or retirement benefits isn’t possible, but I CAN provide Yoga benefits!   Since Karen comes on an on-going, regular basis, the team can participate however often they want to, which is a perfect balance of benefit without obligation.

[Phyzz adds: this is a great example of employer-supported yoga!  Check out our Pricing Schedule to see how this would work at your business!]

An office transformed!

P: Have you noticed any changes in your work life since you started doing yoga at Salmon Bay?
R: The afternoons after our session with Karen always have a renewed and calm feel.   The team is appreciative of the opportunity and we all find greater focus.  Since working exercise into the work/life balance is an ongoing struggle, having it built into the workday relieves some of that stress.  Anytime stress is relieved it’s a GOOD THING!

P: Has re-shaping your office to make room for yoga changed your perspective on your work space?
R: Making space for the yoga has been simple and minimally time consuming.  In the past, we’ve had a few dance instructors come in, so we have always been (happily) aware of the space potential.

P: Anything else?
R: I would highly recommend Karen to anyone who is looking for a fun, healthy and alternative way to bring their team together and support healing and health!

Thanks, Ruby for telling us all about your experience!  Keep your eye on the blog for the next Phyzz Client Profile!  And in the mean time, tell us how you think yoga at work might benefit your workplace by leaving us a comment.
