A little over a month ago, a little email from the Phyzz website came in. I spoke to a kind lady over at Intiman Theater, who wanted to organize a class for herself and her coworkers. We set a time and a date, and we are now 4 sessions or so deep into an ongoing weekly class series!

Now, when I went in to teach their free trial class (which, by the way, is always free), I understood that some people had been to a couple of yoga classes, but most were beginners. We shared a lovely hour of time together during which we stretched, breathed and opened bodies, emphasizing the typical “sticky” places in People New to Yoga: hips, HAMstrings (omg), and hearts (here we’re referring to the upper chest area, which is generally habitually enclosed). Hey, will you look at that, they all start with “h”!

I can’t tell you how cool it is to see bodies and breath capacity evolve. There are these moments in class when I am struck by how much the shape of the space a person occupies in a particular pose has changed. How such an ancient — and, to some — peculiar science  is capable of “opening” a human body at so many levels in just a small amount of time.

Here’s a quote that the company shared with me about yoga classes: “It starts the week off right, getting centered and focused first thing in the morning. Removing the travel time to and from class eliminates the stress for getting to work on time. And as a company, we’ve found it a great way to commune with each other before being thrust into the work environment.”
