Welcome to Phyzz’s Blog!

Phyzz Yoga is a Seattle-based mobile yoga studio that brings yoga and meditation classes to offices and unexpected spaces.

We help people energize their relationship to the way they make their living, and see the value of "yoga at work" (get it?).

Read this blog for various musings on yoga and other topics, or, check out our more schmancy, corporate page.

Oh! And we made the local news. Watch our TV Debut!

Who’s Behind Phyzz?

Over the last decade and a half, Karen has worked as a geologist, high school math teacher, dot-com startup geek, IT nerd, and marketing project manager. In 2008 she realized that teaching yoga required her full and undivided attention.

Based in Seattle, she teaches yoga in the home, at the workplace, and around the world. She has been teaching yoga since 2003, and practicing since 1998. She plans retreats to Northwest destinations, to Mexico, and India. Oh yeah, and she’s older than she looks.

Withdrawal

I’d like to share (with permission), an email from one of the participants in this year’s retreat to La Duna: “I wrote this to a dear friend this morning about the Phyzz Retreat in La Duna, Mexico and I’d like to share it here, as is: Some of it: Seeing whales less than five feet [...]

The One From My Momma-In-Law-To-Be

“Today may there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. [...]

Thankful For Magic

“This experience was a life-changer for me” ~J.K. “This place is so incredibly special.” ~J.T. Just as it did last year, it’s taken me nearly a month to fully process the experience of a week spent at La Duna. When people ask me, “How was Mexico?” The only real word I manage to get out [...]

Rainier Reflections: What the Mountain Taught Me

Well…it’s taken a little over a month for me to pull my thoughts together about my recent trip to climb Mount Rainier. I hope you enjoy it, and I welcome your thoughts and feedback. NOTE: I get a bit wordy below…if you’re short on time, you can read the extremely truncated version of this piece [...]

Eating and Practicing on Island Time

What is it about the San Juan Islands? From the moment the silouhettes of these ancient, wooded sentinels meet your gaze, one is instantly transported into island mode. And let me tell ya, as this summer saw a record number of visits to the San Juans for me (after a decade of living in Seattle), I [...]

India Flashbacks

I have this photo hanging in my home office, taken on a trip to India in 2007.  What do you think of the message? Which got me to reminiscing about that trip. Literally hundreds of photos were taken, but here are a few that still give me pause. If you’re interested in seeing the whole [...]

Layers Of Winter

How Yoga Helps you Get Hitched Without a Hitch

Once upon a time, a friend and fellow yoga teacher asked me to teach her and her family and wedding party a yoga class on her Wedding Day. We happened to be in Mexico (which in the dead of a Pacific Northwest winter was a MOST welcome wedding destination!), staying at a lovely beachfront establishment [...]

Solitude.

This is a view from a recent hike I took up Mount Pilchuck, a peak near Granite Falls, WA. There is a fire lookout at the top of the 3-mile hike (half of which was still covered in snow) that affords this fantastic, unobstructed, 360-degree vista. The lookout was built in 1918, was renovated  and [...]

Fireworks.

Have been having issues with wordpress uploading images lately. With apologies for tardiness, here’s my favorite shot of the fireworks display at Gasworks Park this past 4th of July via my hyperlocal neighborhood blog, www.capitolhillseattle.com. What a beautiful moment in time. Flickr credit to bade_md – you make good pic! Full Cap Hill Seattle post, [...]
