Welcome to Phyzz’s Blog!

Phyzz Yoga is a Seattle-based mobile yoga studio that brings yoga and meditation classes to offices and unexpected spaces.

We help people energize their relationship to the way they make their living, and see the value of "yoga at work" (get it?).

Read this blog for various musings on yoga and other topics, or, check out our more schmancy, corporate page.

Oh! And we made the local news. Watch our TV Debut!

Who’s Behind Phyzz?

Over the last decade and a half, Karen has worked as a geologist, high school math teacher, dot-com startup geek, IT nerd, and marketing project manager. In 2008 she realized that teaching yoga required her full and undivided attention.

Based in Seattle, she teaches yoga in the home, at the workplace, and around the world. She has been teaching yoga since 2003, and practicing since 1998. She plans retreats to Northwest destinations, to Mexico, and India. Oh yeah, and she’s older than she looks.

Who’s Afraid Of The Big Bad Yoga?

Okay. This NY Times article is furiously making its Facebook rounds, and I’ve now been emailed this article enough times that I compelled to say something about it. There’s been quite a bit of a yoga buzz in the news of late. Perhaps this is par for the course, being that it’s the season of New [...]

3 Awesome Office-Space-to-Yoga-Place Makeovers

As a yoga teacher that specializes in “bringing yoga to the workplace and other unique spaces”, I’ve seen a wide range of spaces. I’ve taught in conference rooms, parks, theater lobbies, college auditoriums, classrooms, tropical palapas, kitchens, rooftops, organic smoothie joints, and a whole lot of other places. As far as yoga in the workplace goes, however, some [...]

Hearting Your Hammies: Yoga and Running

I’ve started offering Yoga For Runners classes monthly at Title Nine in the Greenlake neighborhood of Seattle in conjunction with my running coach buddy, Beth of Running Evolution. You can sign up at the Facebook event invite if you like, or drop me a line in the comments below if you’d like to come. They’re super fun, [...]

Lump In My Throat: The Yoga of Food Writing

Last weekend, a friend invited me to tag along with her on a food writer’s retreat. ….      …. “Oh, what the heck,” I figured. I needed to get away, the idyllic island location appealed, and I reckoned the food would be good. As one might gather from my rather sporadic posting frequency on this [...]

This month last year on the Phyzz Blog

2009 17 Things you Should Stop Doing : Productivity501 Guilty as charged: #1 (no direct deposit for the self-employed, dude, sorry); #4; #5. But other than that, we’re not doing so bad after all. Solitude. This is a view from a recent hike I took up Mount Pilchuck, a peak near Granite Falls, WA. There [...]

Phyzz Client Profile: Karen at Intiman Theatre

Welcome to the first installation of Phantabulous Phyzz Client Profiles! Here we’ll feature some rockstar clients of ours to tell you their story, and to hear straight from them as to why yoga in the workplace is important to them. We are hopping into the wayback machine to recount when we first heard from Karen [...]

Awesome Phyzz Phan-mail from PDX

Got this note from a friend who moved to Portland last year. Needs no introduction other than “Thank you, Natalie!” Oh, and for the record, the TV appearance she’s talking about is actually not Phyzz’s TV Debut teaching yoga weekly at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, but a random guest appearance yours truly made [...]

Skin Soothed, Soul Smoothed

After having attended upwards of 20 weddings in the past 3 years (seriously), I have seen friends pushed to their stress limits from planning what should be one of the best days of their lives. Many times, on the home stretch before the event, I have asked couples if they’re excited, and the response is, [...]

On Wedditations: Something Borrowed

During a recent conversation with a friend, I was able to articulate in these words what I believe is Phyzz’s true mission: “To do whatever it is the world asks me to do.“ It appears that the world is asking me to bring yoga to the wedding space – rather cosmically apt, don’t you think [...]

What do Yoga, Boxing, and a High Elevation Oolong have in common?

Those that know me know that many Really Good Things have come into my life recently. One of these things is having the opportunity to train with Carla Wilcox, former female pro boxer, and who has made a name for herself around town as Seattle’s Best Zen Boxing Instructor. You might be thinking, “Um, ahimsa, [...]
