Welcome to Phyzz’s Blog!

Phyzz Yoga is a Seattle-based mobile yoga studio that brings yoga and meditation classes to offices and unexpected spaces.

We help people energize their relationship to the way they make their living, and see the value of "yoga at work" (get it?).

Read this blog for various musings on yoga and other topics, or, check out our more schmancy, corporate page.

Oh! And we made the local news. Watch our TV Debut!

Who’s Behind Phyzz?

Over the last decade and a half, Karen has worked as a geologist, high school math teacher, dot-com startup geek, IT nerd, and marketing project manager. In 2008 she realized that teaching yoga required her full and undivided attention.

Based in Seattle, she teaches yoga in the home, at the workplace, and around the world. She has been teaching yoga since 2003, and practicing since 1998. She plans retreats to Northwest destinations, to Mexico, and India. Oh yeah, and she’s older than she looks.

Parkour: A New Vinyasa

Growing up, I played “ninja” with my sibling-like cousins. Today, I got to play ninja for reals, and completed my first, FREE “Level 0″ parkour course at Parkour Visions. Apart from a sore arm, a tiny splinter, and a minor bruise on my foot, I am unscathed and I have to say I LOVE IT. Knowing [...]

3 Awesome Office-Space-to-Yoga-Place Makeovers

As a yoga teacher that specializes in “bringing yoga to the workplace and other unique spaces”, I’ve seen a wide range of spaces. I’ve taught in conference rooms, parks, theater lobbies, college auditoriums, classrooms, tropical palapas, kitchens, rooftops, organic smoothie joints, and a whole lot of other places. As far as yoga in the workplace goes, however, some [...]

Thankful For Magic

“This experience was a life-changer for me” ~J.K. “This place is so incredibly special.” ~J.T. Just as it did last year, it’s taken me nearly a month to fully process the experience of a week spent at La Duna. When people ask me, “How was Mexico?” The only real word I manage to get out [...]

Happy New Year A Little Late

There are probably a million other things I ought to be doing right now. Like maybe…thinking about where to move my business checking account (it’s been real, Chase), preparing for a two week trip across the Pacific to make the family rounds in a few days, or promoting my upcoming retreat to Mexico in March, [...]

Waiting For God And A Train To The Astroplane

I’m currently obsessed with the Fleet Foxes’ Black Cab Session of Crayon Angels. You can watch it here, or play the YouTube vid below.* Fleet Foxes from Black Cab Sessions on Vimeo. (I tried to embed directly from the BCS website but Vimeo didn’t give me permission) If you’re not familiar with the Black Cab [...]

What Japanese Robot Anime Teaches Us About Yoga

When I was growing up in the Philippines in the early 80s, Japanese robot anime (cartoons) were extremely popular on television…well, before the President Marcos banned them. Yep, banned them. The two that I remember most notably were Voltes 5 and Mazinger Z. I’ve been humming the themes to both of these shows for, well, decades now (remarkably, apparently in the [...]

On Balance and Slacking

Springtime is ripe with change. We add new activities to our schedules, start planning summer adventures, and break out wardrobe items that haven’t seen the light of day in six months or so (read: sleeves that let your arms feel the air!). Somehow, in the winter, there just seems to be more time. Some luxuriate [...]

Jason Mraz in a Little Asian Kid’s Body?

Woke up this morning with a sore throat, and while lying in bed came across this little gem. It’s a sure-fire way to feel good when you’re not feeling your best. Enjoy!

Phyzz’s TV Debut!

A local news channel here in Seattle is doing a story on Phyzz and they filmed me teaching yesterday! The class was one of my longest running corporate classes, and it’s to the kind folks over at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. I have been teaching the staff there in this very same conference [...]
